Committees and Commissions
The bulk of MSA\'s projects are planned and executed by MSA\'s commissions, committees, and task forces. Any student may be a member of an MSA commission, committee, or task force. They meet at least once a week. To get involved, just go to a meeting or contact the chair to find out how you can help.

We publicize and promote the Michigan Student Assembly on campus. We are working to build the ties between the assembly and the student body. It is our hope that as more people learn about MSA, what it does and how it works, we will attract more students who are interested and qualified to get involved in student government. Additionally, we want more students to not only understand how to contact and bring their issues to the assembly, but to feel comfortable doing so. Students have the opportunity to address concerns by visiting a representative during his or her office hours (which will be posted on the MSA calendar once the school year begins), by e-mailing WTF (What To Fix) at wtf@umich.edu, or by attending committee and commission meetings and/or our Tuesday night general assembly meetings, which are always open to the University community.

Here's a list of our projects:

  • Festifall/Winterfest/Open House - recruitment
  • Last year we wrote a blurb in the RHA move-in guide, an MSA insert in the orientation folder, and put an MSA poster up at orientation to reach out to freshmen. We'll be doing the same again this year.
  • MSA hopes to develop our relations with The Michigan Daily, which will serve to inform students of MSA's initiatives and campus events.
  • Meet-a-Rep Nights - held to give students in dorms a chance to ask questions about MSA. We will attempt to hold one in South Quad, one in Markley and One in Bursley in the Fall Semester.
  • Helping other Committees and Commissions publicize their events and reporting upcoming MSA events to the Daily.
  • MSA Diag Boards/Banners/Posters
  • Fireside Chats - Three are held each semester with President Mary Sue Coleman. Anyone is allowed to attend, but must contact Rebecca Babcock at rbabcock@umich.edu, in the VPSA Office, for an invitation in advance. Come to ask Mary Sue Coleman And Royster Harper questions or just to listen in.
  • •Tuesday, October 14- Martha Cook residence hall
  • •Thursday, November 13- Henderson Room, MI League (I am on hold for a room in the Union, so this could change)
  • •Wednesday, December 10- Pendleton Room, MI Union
  • We hope have fireside chats with the athletic director and varsity head coaches, one with all 8 of the Regents and one with Mayor Hieftje and President Coleman.
