What is ISAC/airBus?

ISAC/airBus is a pilot project to make inexpensive, convenient airport transportation available at the beginning of the year. ISAC, or International Student Affairs Commission, is always looking for ways to improve the campus experience for international students. MSA airBus has provided student-friendly airport service at break times since 2002. Our two groups have teamed up to test travel demand at the beginning of the year. While the days and times have been planned with arriving international students in mind, any new or returning U-M student is welcome to use ISAC/airBus.

Who is eligible to ride ISAC/airBus?

Any student enrolled for the Fall 2009 term can ride. This includes new students who have been issued a UMID number with their admission kit and current students who already know their UMID.

Can I bring guests along with me on ISAC/airBus?

Yes! If you're bringing friends or family to U-M with you, bring them along on ISAC/airBus! Be sure to mark the total number of persons traveling on your ISAC/airBus Boarding Pass. Remember that each ride charged will appear on your statement.

Can ISAC/airBus accommodate my bags?

Our buses are equipped to handle a reasonable amount of bags. Generally, anything you can bring on an airplane, we can accommodate on airBus. Please be aware that, at our discretion, we may turn away items which are hazardous or overwhelmingly large.

Where can I find my UMID number?

If you're a new student, your eight-digit UMID number is included in your admission letter. Get to know it -- you'll need it for various activities on campus and you'll need it to ride ISAC/airBus. If you're already a student, your UMID appears on your Mcard. Fill in your UMID on your ISAC/airBus Boarding Pass -- it's your ticket to ride!

Why does ISAC/airBus cost $12?

Because ISAC/airBus is a pilot project, we're charging a fare that's different from regular airBus. If fare revenues recover a large enough percentage of the project's costs, we can continue offering this service in the future. The $12 fare is a fraction of the cost of any taxi or shared-ride van service.

How do I know which airport terminal I'm at?

Detroit Metro Airport has two terminals -- McNamara Terminal and North Terminal. If you're flying non-stop into Detroit from an overseas destination, you'll most likely be arriving at McNamara Terminal. Domestic flights operated by Northwest, Delta and Continental also arrive at McNamara Terminal. Domestic flights on other airlines, plus a few international flights, arrive at North Terminal. ISAC/airBus picks up at the Ground Transportation Center of each terminal. We'll have staff on-hand at both locations to assist you.

How do I contact ISAC/airBus with questions?

If your question isn't answered here, contact us at MSAairBus@umich.edu. We'll also have staff on-hand at Metro Airport to assist you once you arrive.

Who made ISAC/airBus happen?

ISAC/airBus is a pilot project for 2009. It's happening this year thanks to a funding partnership made up of Michigan Student Assembly (MSA) and Rackham Student Government (RSG). The project is an initiative of MSA's International Student Affairs Commission, and the technical planning elements come from MSA airBus. This is a truly collaborative effort to make the beginning of the year a little more welcoming and a little less hectic for thousands of students.
